A poor family in Bhotepowabari, Baksa district, Assam has sought emergency medical aid for their 25-year-old son Champak Kalita, battling for his life following a devastating road accident.
His parents, in a desperate cry for help, have sought urgent intervention from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, requesting financial aid for their son’s critical medical treatment.
Champak, the sole breadwinner of his family, had recently taken a loan to purchase a vehicle on EMI, which he used to earn a modest living by driving passengers. His small earnings sustained his aging parents.
The tragic incident occurred on April 10 near Ganesh Mandir in Nalbari, as Champak was en route to Guwahati for work. After parking his vehicle, he waited inside while his two friends stepped out for tea. Within moments, a speeding four-wheeler collided with his stationary vehicle from behind, violently throwing Champak out of the car and across the road. The vehicle was severely damaged.
The accident happened around 11:00 AM, and while Champak miraculously survived, his injuries were critical. He was immediately transported by police to Guwahati for advanced treatment.
However, his financially struggling family has been unable to afford the continued costs of medical care. With no funds left and the son’s condition deteriorating, his grief-stricken parents, supported by fellow villagers, have issued a heartfelt appeal to the government and the public.
Champak, once working tirelessly to provide for his parents, now lies in a hospital bed clinging to life. The community has offered initial assistance, but it falls short of what’s needed for sustained medical care.
The family has shared bank details of Champak’s mother, Girija Kalita, requesting donations from benevolent individuals willing to contribute toward his recovery.
