Assam: 27-year-old woman missing after jumping into Namphai River with child, minor rescued

A tragic incident unfolded at the Namphai River ghat in Jagun on Tuesday when a 27-year-old woman reportedly jumped into the river with her young child. While alert local residents managed to rescue the child in time, the woman, identified as Aarti Lama, remains missing.

Eyewitnesses at the scene immediately alerted authorities after the incident. A team from the Jagun Police swiftly arrived at the location and has since launched a search and rescue operation, which is currently underway.

The reason behind the woman’s extreme step remains unclear, and authorities are yet to confirm whether it was an attempted suicide or the result of another circumstance. Local police have refrained from commenting further until the investigation progresses.
