Assam: 4 held for illegal toll collection and extortion at Telipara Toll Gate in Gossaigaon

Assam police apprehended four individuals involved in illegal toll collection and alleged extortion at the Telipara Toll Gate in Gossaigaon. The accused, reportedly from outside Assam, were stopping trucks transporting goods from other states and collecting money unlawfully under the pretext of excess cargo.

According to police sources, the suspects used intimidation tactics, threatening drivers and demanding money without conducting any official weight checks on the vehicles. Allegations have also surfaced claiming that the accused physically assaulted some of the truck drivers during the extortion attempts.

The arrests were made as part of a swift operation led by Gosaigaon Police, which resulted in the registration of a case under number 48/25 at Gosaigaon Police Station. Those taken into custody include Gopal Shakiyabhar from Uttar Pradesh, and Ram Karan Bijarnia and Rajendra Singh from Rajasthan, along with one other unidentified individual.

Authorities have confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine the extent of the racket and identify any additional individuals involved.
