Assam: 5 students injured after being hit by speeding truck, driver nabbed by locals
A major road accident in the Suprakandi area of Sribhumi on Tuesday, November 25 left five school students critically injured after a speeding truck rammed into them. The injured minors were rushed to Sribhumi Civil Hospital for urgent medical attention.
According to preliminary reports, the truck bearing registration number AS/01/LC/0532 was travelling at high speed when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, hitting the children and throwing them several feet away due to the impact.
Eyewitnesses said the truck driver attempted to flee the scene after the collision. However, local residents acted swiftly, intercepting both the truck and its driver before handing them over to the police.
Police officers soon arrived at the incident site and began an investigation into the cause of the accident.
The injured students have been identified as Sanjay Namasudra, Priya Shukla Baidya, Saurav Namasudra, Samrat Roy, and Joli Namasudra. Among them, three are boys and two are girls. Hospital authorities confirmed that all five students are receiving treatment, with their condition reported as serious.
