A 52-year-old woman, Usha Biswas, was brutally murdered in Lakhanabondha under the Uluwani Police Station area on Monday, allegedly over a boundary dispute.
The main accused, Madan Biswas, is currently absconding, while five of his relatives have been detained by police for questioning.
The incident occurred when Usha Biswas was reportedly ambushed and attacked near a neighbour’s house. Locals allege the murder stemmed from an ongoing conflict between the two families over land boundaries.
Following the incident, the area was gripped by intense tension. An enraged mob set fire to Madan Biswas’s two-wheeler and other personal belongings. Police forces have been deployed to control the situation and prevent further escalation.
Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation. "We are doing everything possible to trace the prime accused and maintain peace in the area," said a senior police official.
No further violence has been reported, but security remains heightened.
