Assam: ABSU holds statewide 3-hour sit-in demonstration over long-standing education issues

The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), backed by various prominent organizations including the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Bodo Samaj, Harimu Afad, All Assam Tribal Sangha, and All BTR Venture Senior Secondary School Employees' Association, organized a statewide sit-in demonstration on January 8.


The protests took place across all district headquarters of Assam, aiming to highlight and address long-standing educational issues affecting the Bodo community.


A large-scale demonstration was held at Bodofa Children Park in Kokrajhar City, with ABSU leaders pressing for urgent action on several key demands to improve the educational landscape for the Bodo-speaking population. The demands include:


1) Inclusion of Bodo Language in Assam Judicial Service Examinations
2) Inclusion of Bodo Language in the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET)
3) Establishment of 35 New Bodo-Medium High Schools
4) Upgradation of 101 Bodo-Medium High Schools to Higher Secondary Schools, Along with Teacher Recruitment
5) Immediate Provincialization of Venture Schools under Clause 6.3 of the BTR Accord
6) Filling Vacant and Dropout Positions in Bodo-Medium Schools


The demonstration emphasized the need for prompt government intervention to resolve these issues, which have been pending for a considerable time, impacting the educational growth of the Bodo community.
