The All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) marked its 58th Foundation Day on February 15, reaffirming its commitment to the rights, development, and empowerment of the Bodo community.
The central celebration took place at the UN Academy in Peace City, Kokrajhar, where leaders and dignitaries gathered to reflect on the organisation's journey and its role in shaping the socio-political landscape of the region.
ABSU President Dipen Boro led the event by hoisting the organisation's flag and paying tribute to Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma and the martyrs of Bodoland. A symbolic cake-cutting ceremony followed, celebrating over five decades of relentless advocacy.
A key highlight of the day was an open discussion on "ABSU and Vision for Bodo Nation Building," focusing on the organization's future strategies and challenges. Among the prominent attendees were MP Joynta Basumatary, Rwngwra Narzary, Dr Samudra Gupta Kashyap (Chancellor of Nagaland University), Surath Narzary (President of Bodo Sahitya Sabha), and ABSU General Secretary Khanindra Basumatary.
Since its establishment in 1967, ABSU has been instrumental in championing educational reforms, preserving Bodo culture, and addressing socio-political issues. The organisation has played a critical role in negotiations and movements that have shaped the Bodo community's aspirations and identity.
Foundation Day celebrations extended beyond Kokrajhar, with various programs held across Assam to acknowledge ABSU’s contributions. Community members, activists, and leaders came together to honor the organisation’s legacy and discuss its ongoing efforts toward progress.
ABSU leaders reiterated their dedication to educational and social advancement, emphasizing the need for collective action to tackle contemporary challenges. The anniversary served as a reminder of the union’s enduring mission to uplift the Bodo people and strengthen their future.
