The All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) marked the 34th death anniversary of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, widely regarded as the 'Father of the Bodos,' with solemn ceremonies and tributes on Wednesday.
The commemoration began with the half-hoisting of the ABSU's flag at Thulugapuri, Dotma, conducted by Dipen Boro, President of ABSU. A heartfelt floral tribute was paid at Bodofa's tomb, with Assam Cabinet Minister UG Brahma initiating the homage.
Notably, the burial site of Bodofa was also adorned with floral tributes, a gesture led by Biswajit Daimary, Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly. Daimary lauded Bodofa's revolutionary life, emphasizing his role in galvanizing the Bodos worldwide to embrace their identity, language, culture, and traditions.
Reflecting on Bodofa's legacy, Daimary remarked, "Bodofa UN Brahma lived a revolutionary life, igniting the Bodos of the world to realize their identity and existence with their language, culture, and traditions." He highlighted Bodofa's pivotal leadership during his tenure as the President of ABSU, a position he held until his demise in 1987.
"Bodofa is an ideal for us. When there are any kind of obstacles to the unity of the community we remember him and his teachings to move forward in society”, Daimary remarked.
In honor of the occasion, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Pramod Boro, Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), are slated to attend and pay their respects with floral tributes to Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma.
