Assam: Accused in Basistha bar incident threatens cop, ignites new twist

In a startling development, Ankur Dutta, one of the accused in the bar case involving Basistha Police Station, has allegedly threatened to kill another jawan associated with the station, identified as Pranjal Saikia.

Pranjal Saikia received threats on social media and over the phone, prompting him to lodge a First Information Report (FIR) at the Basistha Police Station. However, despite the complaint, no investigation has been initiated into the matter.

This latest twist comes in the wake of the earlier incident on April 21, where the owners of the bar, including Ankur Dutta, were accused of attempting to burn a police jawan at THE ECHO PUB & GILL in Vashishta.

The threats made by Ankur Dutta to Pranjal Saikia have sent shockwaves outside the police department, adding to the already tense atmosphere following the initial altercation at the bar.

In the initial incident, Pradeep Basumatary, a police officer stationed at Basistha Police Station, was subjected to a brutal assault after responding to complaints of disturbances at the ECHO bar. The altercation escalated into a physical confrontation, with Basumatary being doused in diesel and set on fire by miscreants.

The incident, occurring in the early hours of April 21, has underscored the dangers faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty. Following the assault, two individuals, including the bar owner, have been arrested in connection with the incident, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the attack.

This distressing event serves as a sobering reminder of the challenges encountered by police officers in maintaining law and order, emphasizing the imperative need for enhanced support and protection for those who dedicate their lives to serving and safeguarding our communities.
