Assam: After ticket snub, BJP leader Sanjay Roy decides to contest as an independent candidate

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is facing internal discord in Assam’s Abhayapuri constituency after BJP's youth leader Sanjay Roy announced his decision to contest as an independent candidate, alleging unfair denial of party ticket despite years of service.

Sanjay Roy, State Vice President of the BJP Yuva Morcha, has decided to enter the electoral fray independently after being denied a party nomination for the upcoming Assembly elections. His decision comes days after an emotional public reaction, where he was seen breaking down over the party’s decision.

Roy, who claims to have been actively involved in the BJP’s organisational work for over 12 years, has raised questions over the internal selection process adopted by the party. He criticised the system of internal voting among ticket aspirants, alleging lack of transparency and fairness.

Sources indicate that Roy is likely to file his nomination papers as an independent candidate on March 23, setting the stage for a potentially multi-cornered contest in the constituency.

Earlier, Sanjay Roy broke down after knowing that he was denied party ticket before BJP released its first list of candidates for the forthcoming Assembly elections.

His video of crying inconsolably, with his supporters surrounding him, went viral on social media.
