Assam: After ticket snub, Faridul Hussain resigns from Congress, extends support to AIUDF
Dr. Faridul Islam from Lahorighat, resigned from Congress party on March 29 after being denied a party ticket to contest the upcoming Assam Assembly elections.
Expressing dissatisfaction at being denied a party ticket, Hussain speaking to the media said that eighty percent of the people in Lahorighat were with him and highlighted public disappointment over his exclusion. He subsequently joined the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), citing his commitment to representing the electorate’s interests.
AIUDF’s current candidate in Lahorighat, Siddique Ahmed, is contesting to unseat the sitting MLA Asif Nazar. Dr. Islam’s move has brought several former Congress leaders, who were also denied tickets, into AIUDF, strengthening the party’s campaign presence in the constituency.
With Dr. Islam and these leaders actively campaigning, AIUDF aims to consolidate its support base in Lahorighat. Observers note that the constituency is now witnessing heightened political activity and competitive electoral strategies from all major parties.
