Assam: Agitated residents lock APDCL office in Abhayapuri over prolonged power outage
The Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) office in Abhayapuri in Bongaigaon district was locked by agitated residents after power supply remained disrupted for nearly 48 hours in several areas, triggering protests amid intense heat.
The protest followed a prolonged outage in large parts of the Kakaijana and Sidhalsati areas under the Abhayapuri APDCL division. Electricity supply was disrupted after a spell of rain on August 17 and remained affected for nearly two days.
Frustrated over the prolonged disruption, residents gathered outside the APDCL office and locked the premises, demanding restoration of power supply.
The Sub-Divisional Commissioner, Sub-Divisional Superintendent of Police, personnel from Abhayapuri Police and the Sub-Divisional Engineer of Abhayapuri APDCL were present at the site as the situation escalated.
The protest was brought under control after electricity department officials assured the residents that power supply would be restored and regularised.
The incident comes amid growing concerns among residents over prolonged power disruptions during periods of intense heat and adverse weather conditions.
