Assam: AGP Leader Phanibhusan Chowdhury's stance on Koch Rajbongshi tribes draws attention in Barpeta campaign

In the ongoing campaign for the No. 3 Barpeta Lok Sabha constituency, Phanibhusan Chowdhury, the candidate representing the AGP-BJP alliance has drawn attention for his ambiguous stance regarding the tribes of the Koch Rajbongshi community.

Chowdhury recently attended the Daul Festival at Kathalbari in Nalbari where he engaged with the public and addressed reporters. During the interaction, he expressed uncertainty about his ability to influence the granting of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, stating, "I am not the Prime Minister, how will I do ST." Despite this, Chowdhury conveyed his support for the Koch Rajbongshi community's quest for ST status.

Asserting his confidence in his candidacy, Chowdhury claimed to have no formidable opponents in Barpeta, expressing optimism about the prospect of the NDA forming the government once again.

In a direct speech byte, Chowdhury emphasized the discernment of modern voters, stating, "Nowadays, the voters are very experienced and do not vote for an independent candidate for any reason."
