Assam: Aids and assistive devices distributed to over 500 for persons with disabilities in Kokrajhar

In a significant step toward supporting the empowerment and inclusion of persons with disabilities (Divyangjan), a ceremonial distribution of aids and assistive devices was held today at the Science College Auditorium Hall in Kokrajhar. The initiative falls under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

Organized by the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) in collaboration with the District Administration, Kokrajhar and the Department of Women and Child Development, the event saw the distribution of essential mobility and assistive aids to hundreds of beneficiaries.

In total, 558 assistive devices were provided, including 60 tricycles, 108 wheelchairs, 220 crutches, and 102 hearing aids, significantly improving mobility and communication for persons with disabilities in the region.

The distribution programme was attended by Masanda M. Pertin, Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar, P. Kshetri, Chief Supervisor of IRCTC Guwahati, officials from the Social Welfare Department, and other dignitaries. The event highlighted the collaborative efforts of government bodies and public sector enterprises in enhancing accessibility and dignity for persons with disabilities.

The initiative was met with appreciation from the beneficiaries and local residents, with many expressing hope that such inclusive welfare programmes continue to reach the grassroots.
