In response to the Assam government's announcement that Aadhaar cards for adults will now be issued solely through District Commissioners’ (DC) offices, All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Rafiqul Islam has expressed his support for the move, while stressing the need for a smooth and transparent system.
Speaking to the media, Islam said, “Whether Aadhaar cards are issued through the District Commissioners or the Chief Minister’s Office, we have no objection. What matters is that Aadhaar cards do not end up in the hands of ineligible or non-Indian individuals.”
While welcoming the government's intent to streamline Aadhaar enrolment, the AIUDF leader urged authorities to ensure that citizens do not suffer due to procedural lapses. “The government should ensure that the DC offices are equipped to handle public applications efficiently. People should not be made to wait endlessly in queues. The process must be proper and accessible,” he added.
Islam emphasized that the integrity of Aadhaar issuance must be maintained while ensuring that genuine citizens receive their documents without facing inconvenience or delays.
