Assam: AIUDF MLA Rafiqul Islam slams ‘Shoot-at-Sight’ order in Dhubri, demands high-level inquiry

All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Rafiqul Islam has strongly criticized the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s "shoot-at-sight" directive issued in connection with recent unrest in Dhubri district. Speaking to the media, Islam alleged that the order disproportionately targets a specific community and could further destabilize communal harmony in the state.

"We want peace in Assam. People from different religions and communities live here peacefully. However, during Eid celebrations in Dhubri, some miscreants did disturb religious sentiments, which is condemnable. But the government's response, especially the shoot-at-sight order, is completely unacceptable," said the MLA.

He further stated that instead of taking a balanced approach, the state government appears to be selectively targeting the Muslim community. "We are urging the government to conduct a high-level, impartial inquiry into the incidents in Dhubri. Unfortunately, such an inquiry has not been initiated. Rather, actions are being taken that marginalize one particular religion," he added.

Rafiqul Islam also accused Chief Minister Sarma of escalating the situation rather than de-escalating it. “The CM’s provocative stance and the extreme directive have only worsened the situation. A democratic government must uphold the law and act with restraint,” he emphasized.
