With the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections scheduled for September, political activities are gaining momentum across the region.
The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) on Sunday held an organisational meeting at Terapanth Bhawan in Kokrajhar to discuss the party’s strategies for the upcoming BTC elections.
The meeting was attended by AJP Central President Lurinjyoti Gogoi, Secretary Chitta Ranjan Basumatary, and several senior party leaders and workers. During the event, more than 200 individuals from various political backgrounds formally joined the AJP, significantly boosting the party’s grassroots presence in the region.
Addressing reporters after the meeting, Lurinjyoti Gogoi said the party has already begun preparations for the BTC polls.
He stated that the AJP is currently assessing the ground realities before deciding how many seats it will contest in the elections. He also emphasised that the AJP is open to forming alliances and cooperating with like-minded regional political forces to amplify the voice of the people.
“We are open to working with like-minded regional forces who truly understand and represent the aspirations of the people,” Gogoi said.
When asked about the possibility of the three Gogois—Lurinjyoti Gogoi, Gaurav Gogoi, and Akhil Gogoi—joining forces for the next Assam Assembly elections, he replied:
“Not just the three Gogois, but all opposition forces should come together to ensure a united fight.”
