Raijor Dal chief and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi took sharp aim at both the BJP and AIUDF during a public rally in Dhubri’s Piasbari on Tuesday, accusing the two parties of covert cooperation and communal politics.
The rally comes at a crucial moment as political activity picks up across Assam ahead of the Panchayat elections.
Gogoi didn’t hold back, calling the AIUDF the “B-team” of the BJP and alleging that their rivalry is more performance than substance. “Both BJP and AIUDF thrive on divisive politics, and we will not allow them to succeed,” he told the gathering at Piasbari High School Playground, drawing loud approval from the crowd.
He also accused the BJP-led government of ignoring core public issues in Assam, suggesting that governance had taken a backseat to polarisation. His criticism targeted what he sees as an erosion of democratic values and neglect of local needs.
As for Raijor Dal’s election plans, Gogoi made it clear the party would not be contesting every seat but would instead opt for selective participation. “Our focus is on quality over quantity. We will field candidates where we can make a real difference,” he said, outlining a focused strategy for the grassroots-level polls.
The future of Raijor Dal’s alliance with the Assam State Congress Committee remains uncertain. Gogoi acknowledged ongoing talks but avoided any definitive statements, leaving room for speculation ahead of the elections.
Referencing past electoral clashes, he claimed his party had significantly curtailed the AIUDF’s reach in the previous Lok Sabha elections. “Our efforts have significantly weakened AIUDF, and we intend to continue this fight,” he added, portraying Raijor Dal as a rising third force in Assam’s political landscape.
