Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi has made a strong appeal for opposition unity to counter the BJP in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. Highlighting the necessity of a consolidated front, Gogoi urged all opposition parties to come together to mount an effective challenge.
Addressing the media in Sivasagar, Gogoi referenced the recent electoral outcomes in Delhi and Haryana, emphasizing how opposition unity played a decisive role in countering the BJP. Despite these examples, he expressed concern over the lack of realization among opposition forces regarding the urgency of joining hands.
He criticized opposition parties for limiting their opposition to verbal attacks while failing to take concrete steps toward unity. According to Gogoi, the BJP remains a "formidable force," and without a collective strategy, dislodging the ruling party and safeguarding democracy would be a daunting task.
Merely strengthening individual party structures, he asserted, would not be enough. A unified opposition front, he argued, would significantly enhance electoral prospects, yielding better results than isolated efforts.
Gogoi also took aim at the Congress party, calling for an end to internal divisions and urging them to lead a cohesive opposition alliance. He proposed convening a meeting of all opposition parties soon to formulate a joint strategy for the 2026 elections.
Expressing confidence in his party’s electoral prospects, Gogoi affirmed that Raijor Dal, whether contesting independently or as part of an alliance, is poised to secure more seats in the upcoming polls. He reiterated that opposition unity remains the only viable path to counter the BJP’s "fascist and communal" politics.
