Assam: Alleged extramarital affair sparks street fight between two women in Nagaon

An alleged extramarital relationship reportedly led to a public confrontation between two women at Jajori market in Assam's Nagaon district on September 1, with videos of the altercation circulating on social media.

According to local reports, Harkanta Bordoloi of Dolonghat, who is married and has children, had allegedly been in a relationship for several years with Durga Bordoloi, a married woman and mother of two from the same area.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon, August 31, when Har Kanta and Durga were allegedly spotted together at Jajori market by Har Kanta's wife, Dipa Bordoloi.

An argument reportedly broke out between the women, which later escalated into a physical altercation. Videos purportedly showing the two women pulling each other's hair and grappling on the roadside were captured on camera.

As the situation became tense, personnel from Jajori Police Station reached the spot and took both women to the police station.

Further details regarding whether any complaint has been formally lodged or whether any legal action has been initiated were not immediately available.

The incident has attracted attention locally amid wider discussions over relationships and family disputes following the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Assam. However, the reported altercation itself is a matter involving alleged personal relationships and does not by itself establish any violation of the UCC.
