Assam allocates Rs 24.5 cr to ensure soil conservation and growth
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated the importance of efficient soil conservation techniques for agricultural productivity and ecological growth. Announcing a Rs 24.5 crore initiative, he outlined multiple projects aimed at boosting crop production, enhancing groundwater recharge, and promoting ecological restoration.
"Efficient soil conservation techniques boost productivity and aid growth. We have undertaken efforts to ensure sustainable soil management for Assam’s long-term development," Sarma said.
Key projects under the initiative include the Batabari Wetland Development and Integrated Water Harvesting and Erosion Control at Tiokai-Kazigaon. These projects aim to enhance agricultural output, secure water resources, and address climate change through innovative soil and water management techniques.
The plan employs methods such as land and water treatment for sustainable farming, groundwater recharge systems, and large-scale reforestation to improve ecosystem quality. District-level monitoring and GIS-based oversight will ensure effective implementation, with quarterly progress reports and independent evaluations.
