Assam: Ambulance donated to Lampi, ending decades-long wait

In a landmark development for the remote Lampi region in Boko, Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has donated an ambulance to the local community, addressing a critical healthcare gap that had persisted for decades.

The handover marks the culmination of years of persistent demands and movements by the residents of Lampi, who have been seeking better healthcare access since India’s independence.

The much-needed ambulance was provided with the joint efforts of the Assam Gorkha Development Council and the All Assam Gorkha Students' Union, ensuring a vital lifeline for emergency medical services in the region.

Until now, patients from Lampi had to travel nearly 30 kilometers to the Boko Primary Health Centre for even basic treatment. This not only caused delays in urgent care but also imposed financial burdens on impoverished families, who often spent between ₹4,000 to ₹6,000 on each trip for transportation.

At the formal distribution ceremony held today in Lampi, key dignitaries including Sudip Pradhan, Independent Director of Numaligarh Refinery Limited, and Prem Tamang, Chief Executive Member of the Assam Gorkha Development Council, attended alongside leaders of the Gorkha Students' Union and local villagers.

Community members hailed the donation as a historic step forward in improving healthcare access and easing the struggles of rural residents in the Chirseuj Paharia belt.
