Assam: Annual traditional games light up Bihu celebrations in Baksa

Marking the onset of the Assamese New Year, Rongali Bihu festivities brought vibrant celebrations to Baksa district, in tune with the rest of Assam. The first day of Bohag, locally considered the most auspicious day of the Assamese calendar, was celebrated with cultural enthusiasm and traditional fervor.

In West Hatkhola village under Anand Bazar, a day-long event featuring traditional games and recreational competitions was organized to commemorate the occasion. The festive spirit was embraced by villagers across all age groups, as children, women, youth, and the elderly took part in various activities.

Events such as running races, tug-of-war, kabaddi, and the traditional “catch-the-duck” game added excitement to the celebrations. According to local residents, the initiative was aimed at fostering unity and reinforcing community ties.

It is a long-standing tradition in West Hatkhola to host such games annually on the first day of Bohag, reflecting the cultural richness and communal harmony that Rongali Bihu symbolizes.
