Allegations of large-scale corruption have rocked the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) amid claims that Panchayat election tickets were sold for lakhs of rupees in Sribhumi district. The scandal centers on APCC General Secretary Aminur Rashid Choudhury, also known as Shamim, who has been accused of collecting substantial sums in exchange for distributing party tickets.
According to reports, Selim Uddin, a ticket aspirant from the Srimanta Kanishail Zila Parishad constituency, allegedly paid Rs 10 lakh to secure a Congress nomination. Despite the payment, the ticket was later granted to another individual, purportedly in exchange for a higher amount. Uddin subsequently submitted a formal complaint to both the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and the APCC, but no action has reportedly been taken to date.
The controversy intensified after a video surfaced online, allegedly showing Choudhury handling bundles of cash. Adding to the scandal, an audio clip has also gone viral, purportedly capturing a conversation between Sribhumi District Congress Vice President Bishwajit Ghosh and a ticket aspirant. In the recording, Ghosh is allegedly heard instructing the aspirant to send money to Guwahati and to speak directly with Choudhury. “We have already handed over what needed to be given,” he is heard saying.
The viral video and audio recordings have fueled public outrage and raised questions about transparency and internal accountability within the Congress party.
Uddin's allegations suggest that despite a formal complaint and mounting evidence, the party has yet to initiate any disciplinary action. This inaction has led to growing speculation that the proceeds of the alleged bribes may have been shared beyond the individuals directly involved.
