Assam: Ashok Singhal reviews BJP’s poll preparedness in Kokrajhar ahead of BTC elections

Assam Cabinet Minister and BJP leader Ashok Singhal visited Kokrajhar district to assess the party's preparedness for the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections. Tasked with spearheading the BJP’s strategic efforts in the district, Singhal convened a crucial meeting with senior district-level leaders to strengthen the party’s grassroots machinery.

The review meeting was held at the BJP’s Kokrajhar district office and was attended by key leaders including mandal presidents and general secretaries from all 12 mandals in the district. Discussions centered around streamlining booth-level organization and solidifying the party’s outreach ahead of the polls.

Prominent leaders present included BTC Executive Members Sajal Singh and Arup Kumar Dey, MCLA Rajib Brahma, and Kokrajhar District BJP President Gossai Basumatary. The session emphasized the importance of inclusive representation of all ethnic groups in the region, aligning with the BJP’s broader goal of forming a robust administration in the BTC.

Addressing reporters after the meeting, Minister Singhal reaffirmed the BJP’s commitment to ensuring diverse community representation in the council and declared the party's intention to contest the elections with full strength.

While the Assam State Election Commission has yet to announce the official poll schedule, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently suggested that the BTC elections could be held in September. Political activity in the region has since intensified, with parties ramping up campaign strategies and internal mobilization.

Simultaneously, Assam Cabinet Minister and Adviser to the Central Election Committee of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), Urkhao Gwra Brahma, also conducted a strategic review of UPPL’s organizational preparedness in Kokrajhar. The meeting, held at the UPPL central office in Kokrajhar town, focused on outlining a comprehensive roadmap for the upcoming electoral battle.
