Assam Assembly polls: Chamaria, Boko-Chaygaon witness peaceful voting, no untoward incident reported

Voting for Assam Assembly Election was conducted on April 9, with polling proceedings largely peacefull in several parts of the state, including the Chamaria and Boko-Chaygaon constituencies in Kamrup district.

Polling in the 27 No. Samaria constituency began at 7 a.m., with voters turning out steadily through the day. At the 240 No. Fakirpara Simina Primary School polling station under Hatipara Gaon Panchayat in East Chamaria, the voting process was marked by a visible turnout and an orderly environment.

Congress candidate Rekibuddin Ahmed, a former MLA from Chaygaon, cast his vote at the polling station around noon. He was accompanied by his family members, including his wife Nuri Khan, son Rehan Ahmed, and daughter Sufia Ahmed, all of whom exercised their franchise. His arrival was marked by a procession featuring traditional drums and music, drawing the attention of local residents and supporters.

Speaking to reporters after voting, Ahmed expressed confidence in his electoral prospects, stating that he expected to secure more than 1.5 lakh votes in the constituency.

In the neighbouring 28 No. Boko-Chaygaon constituency, BJP alliance candidate Raju Mech cast his vote at the Chaikata Primary School polling station in Boko, accompanied by his mother.

Other candidates in the Boko-Chaygaon constituency also exercised their franchise during the day. Congress candidate Ramen Sing Rabha voted at the Hahim Shamuka Primary School polling station, while Trinamool Congress candidate Bhoglal Rabha cast his vote at the Sishapith High School polling station. National People’s Party (NPP) candidate Gancheng B. Sangma voted at the Hahim High School polling station.

Polling across these constituencies was conducted under the supervision of election authorities, with security arrangements in place to ensure a smooth voting process. Officials are expected to release voter turnout figures later in the day.
