Assam Association Chennai hosts colorful Bihu celebration in Chennai

The Assam Association Chennai (AAC) organized a colorful Bihu celebration at a private resort, infusing the air with vibrant colors and cultural fervor. Families, young professionals, and students alike converged to partake in the cultural extravaganza, showcasing the rich heritage of Assam in the heart of Chennai.

Gracing the occasion as the chief guest was Shunchonngam Jatak Chiru, IAS., Principal Secretary/Commissioner of Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare, Tamil Nadu, who delivered an inspiring address to the gathered attendees.

The festivities commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Deepali Patwary, alongside distinguished figures including Pradeep Sarma, Professor at Sikkim University, Deban Doloi, Vice President of AAC, and Gautam Deori, General Secretary of AAC. Deepali's home, where the Assamese community in Chennai first congregated in the early 70s, held a special significance, serving as the genesis of the community's formation.

Adding an element of surprise and excitement, attendees were treated to a fun activity titled "Rongali'r Rong," while the Bihu Bazar provided a platform for local small businesses to showcase their offerings ranging from traditional attire to handcrafted artifacts.

The cultural performances stole the spotlight, with AAC Kids showcasing their talent and enthusiasm through a special performance. Traditional group dances and a soulful Kids Prayer Song captivated the audience, while the ceremonial flag hoisting ceremony imbued the event with a sense of patriotism and unity.

Guests indulged in a delightful spread of Assamese cuisine, savoring the flavors of tea, snacks, and Jolpan, while also witnessing the launch of the new digital platform, https://www.aaconline.in/, a significant milestone for the association in connecting and engaging with the community.

Gautam Deori, General Secretary of AAC, provided insights into the association's achievements and contributions, emphasizing their commitment to promoting Assamese culture across Tamil Nadu. The evening continued with a glamorous fashion show and captivating group medley, blending tradition with modernity seamlessly.

The musical extravaganza by Jyotishna Gautam and Prasenjit Parasar enchanted the audience with melodious tunes, creating moments of joy and camaraderie.
