Assam: Bandhan Bank employee duped 11 tribal women of Rs 70,000 in Ledo

A major fraud scandal has been uncovered at Bandhan Bank's Ledo branch, located in the Borgolai oil depot area of Margherita subdivision. Accusations involve a woman, Rinku Gogoi, who reportedly misled over 100 women from Amrit Gaon with false promises of loans in October, resulting in alleged financial misappropriation. A pregnant tribal woman was among the victims.

According to sources, Rinku Gogoi secured loans of Rs 70,000 each under the names of 11 tribal women but failed to hand over the money. Instead, she allegedly embezzled the funds. Yesterday, Rs 38,000 was unexpectedly credited to the accounts of the affected women, raising questions about the bank's internal processes.

Following this, Bandhan Bank Manager Abhijit Dutta reportedly transported some of the women to the bank and allegedly coerced them to withdraw the funds and transfer the amount to Rinku Gogoi. This incident has led to speculation about a potential nexus between Rinku Gogoi and the bank's authorities.
The situation escalated as members of the All Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association staged a protest, surrounding the bank and demanding answers. They have filed an official complaint at the Margherita police station against both Rinku Gogoi and employees of the Ledo branch.

Local authorities have been informed, and an investigation is underway to determine the extent of the alleged fraud and any involvement of bank personnel. The district administration is expected to take appropriate action, with public interest closely monitoring developments in the case.
