Assam: Banned cow meat seized in Bokakhat, police trap suspect red-handed

In a major crackdown on illegal cattle meat trade, Bokakhat police on Wednesday seized a substantial quantity of banned cow meat from a residence in Mohmaiki village, Ward No. 8 of Bokakhat town, Assam.

The meat was recovered from the home of Nurul Mustafa Sheikh, also known as Ibul, following a special tip-off. Acting swiftly, a police team raided the premises and caught the accused red-handed while he was allegedly in the process of cutting the meat.

Police sources revealed that the illicit trade had been operating for an extended period in close proximity to the Bokakhat Sub-Divisional Commissioner’s Office a location that had raised concerns among locals.

Earlier, several raids had been carried out under the leadership of Bokakhat Sub-Divisional Police Officer Burdi Barua, but this is the first time the accused was apprehended in the act. Authorities are now investigating the supply chain and possible involvement of other individuals in the banned meat trade.

The seized meat has been sent for further verification, and a case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Assam Cattle Preservation Act and other applicable laws.
