Assam: Barpeta Police arrest alleged fraudster linked to multiple cheating cases

A notorious fraudster, identified as Dharmeswar Roy alias Jitu Roy, who allegedly duped people from different parts of the state and siphoned off lakhs of rupees through fraudulent means, has finally been arrested by Barpeta Police.

According to police, the accused first befriended a young woman from Barpeta through Facebook and later allegedly extorted more than Rs 10 lakh from her by promising to arrange a job.

Investigations revealed that the accused used multiple fake identities on Facebook, posing at times as a prominent businessman, contractor, or government officer.
