Assam: Barpeta police recover Rs 4.99 lakh buried underground in major theft case

In a major breakthrough, Barpeta Police on May 1 recovered Rs 4,99,500 in cash that had been buried underground, following the arrest of an accused involved in a high-value theft case.

According to police sources, a large amount of cash and other valuables had recently been stolen from the residence of one Jagadish Talukdar at Golia Hati area in Barpeta town.

Acting on the case, Barpeta Police launched an investigation and had arrested the prime accused, identified as Nurul alias Geda, a day earlier.

Based on the confession of the accused, police carried out a search operation in the Gandhi Nagar area on Friday and successfully recovered ₹4,99,500 in cash that had allegedly been hidden beneath the ground.

Police have formally arrested Nurul and further investigation into the theft case is currently underway.
