<p>According to police sources, a large amount of cash and other valuables had recently been stolen from the residence of one Jagadish Talukdar at Golia Hati area in Barpeta town.</p>

<p>Acting on the case, Barpeta Police launched an investigation and had arrested the prime accused, identified as Nurul alias Geda, a day earlier.</p>

<p>Based on the confession of the accused, police carried out a search operation in the Gandhi Nagar area on Friday and successfully recovered ₹4,99,500 in cash that had allegedly been hidden beneath the ground.</p>

<p>Police have formally arrested Nurul and further investigation into the theft case is currently underway.<br>
