Assam: Batadrava Police seize cattle-laden vehicles during naka checking ahead of Bakrid

Ahead of Bakrid (Eid al-Adha), Assam Police has intensified checks on cattle transportation in parts of central Assam, with Batadrava Police seizing five vehicles carrying cattle during a naka checking operation in Nagaon district.

Police said a total of 17 cattle were rescued from the vehicles during the operation.

According to officials, the vehicles were intercepted during routine checking conducted by Batadrava Police. When police sought valid transportation and ownership documents, some of the individuals transporting the cattle allegedly failed to produce the necessary papers.

Police further stated that the driver of one of the vehicles and the owner of the cattle fled from the spot after assuring authorities that they would later submit the required documents.

Preliminary information suggests that the cattle were being transported after being purchased and sold at the bi-weekly Shantijan market in Batadrava.

While the vehicles were seized for further investigation, police handed over custody of the cattle to those owners who were able to furnish valid documents.

The cattle for which no legal documents could be produced were later sent to a gaushala, police said.

The operation comes amid heightened vigilance by Assam Police ahead of Bakrid, with authorities monitoring cattle transportation and trade activities across several districts.
