The recent floods have exacerbated the erosion of the Beki River, posing a grave threat to Kaurjahi village and the Kaurjahi Primary School No. 1669. The situation has left the community in dire straits, with around 200 families displaced and the future of 160 students hanging in the balance.
The Kaurjahi village, located in the Kalgachia revenue circle of the Jania constituency, is on the brink of being washed away due to the relentless erosion of the Beki River. The river's encroachment has reached alarming levels, submerging homes and threatening crucial infrastructure, including the Kaurjahi Primary School and the Kaurjahi Mosque.
In the wake of these developments, the local MLA Dr. Hafiz Rafiqul Islam has faced severe criticism from the affected community for his lack of intervention and response to the crisis. Meanwhile, MLAs Zakir Hussain Shikdar of the Sarukhshetri constituency and Sherman Ali Ahmed of the Baghbar constituency have visited the affected areas, providing some measure of support and raising awareness of the dire situation.
In response to the crisis, the aggrieved residents have urgently appealed to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu to take immediate action to protect the primary school and address the erosion issues threatening their homes and livelihoods.
