Assam: Bhologuri Tea Estate reels under flood fury as Balijan River breaches embankment

Relentless and heavy downpours have triggered severe flooding across parts of Assam, with the Bhologuri Tea Estate—an estate steeped in historical significance—bearing the brunt of nature’s fury. Rising water levels in the Balijan River and its tributaries have led to the breach of a crucial embankment, unleashing a torrent of floodwaters into nearby villages and plantations.

The flooding has completely inundated the Bhologuri Tea Estate, with water entering residential quarters and tea workers’ settlements, throwing normal life into disarray. Panic and despair gripped the estate as residents struggled to salvage belongings and secure shelter.

The plight of tea garden workers has worsened amid rising uncertainty and deteriorating living conditions. Essential infrastructure like the Garh Captain Path, a critical internal roadway for daily operations and movement, is now completely submerged, disrupting transportation and access to emergency services.

With communication and mobility hindered, urgent calls for relief and rehabilitation have been raised by affected residents and local leaders. Authorities are expected to assess the situation and deploy emergency assistance.
