Assam: Bhuban Singh Rabha, royal descendant of the historic Bogai kingdom, passes away at 64

Bhuban Singh Rabha, widely revered as the Bogai Raja and a royal descendant of Assam’s historic Bogai Kingdom, passed away on Monday, August 4 at his residence in Bamunigaon Ouphula, Boko. He was 64.

 

A respected figure in local heritage and history, Bhuban Singh Rabha was officially conferred the royal title on February 27, 1999, through hereditary succession. The honor was formally granted by the Banagaon Mouza, recognizing his lineage and symbolic status as a custodian of Bogai’s cultural legacy.

 

Rabha had been battling paralysis for nearly three months before his demise. He had previously served in the Indian Army and received the traditional title of Bogai Raja following his retirement a recognition of both his lineage and his service to the nation.

 

His passing has elicited widespread condolences from various social and cultural organizations across the region. Tributes poured in, celebrating his role in preserving the identity and pride of the Bogai Kingdom.

 

His final rites were conducted with full traditional honors, marking the end of an era for the once-princely lineage of the Rabha community.
