Assam: Bir Lachit Sena Asom intervenes after indigenous woman obstructed from reopening business in Margherita

The Bir Lachit Sena Asom has taken note of a complaint regarding obstruction faced by an indigenous woman in Margherita while trying to reopen her business.

According to the complaint, Mridula Gogoi Chetia, an indigenous trader, has been running a temporary shop in the Margherita Bazar area since 2020 to earn her livelihood. About a year ago, a fire incident in the bazar destroyed her shop along with several other establishments. While most traders were able to reopen their businesses, it is alleged that Santosh Chetry, also known as Munna, has been preventing her from resuming operations.

Upon receiving the complaint, members of the Margherita Regional Committee of Bir Lachit Sena Asom conducted an on-site inspection of the shop on Thursday morning. The organisation demanded that the Margherita Police and Co-District Administration take immediate steps to ensure justice for the affected woman.

The regional committee also issued a stern warning, stating that if the authorities fail to act promptly, the organisation may be compelled to intervene directly to protect the rights of the indigenous woman.
