Ahead of the forthcoming North Cachar Autonomous Council elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party is facing a major setback as there have been talks of several leaders considering resigning from the party.
Amid this, Joysing Durong, a former councilor elected from 17 Garmpani constituency last time has tendered his resignation from the party.
Expressing discontent for not being provided an election ticket, the BJP councilor decided to resign from the party and who will be contesting as independent candidates.
"There are many reasons why you shouldn't be afraid to leave the BJP in Dima Hasao district. Those who have not received tickets from the BJP are considering leaving the party and contesting as independent candidates. One of them is Joyching Durung, a councilor elected from 17 Garmpani constituency last time. He is forced to stand up under pressure from the crowd. Joyching Durung and the people's anger against the BJP has risen in the recent times", mentioned one of the BJP members.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) currently holds power in the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council in Assam's Dima Hasao district. Elections for the council in 28 areas are set for January 8, with a re-vote, if required, on January 10.
