Assam BJP targets Gaurav Gogoi over alleged Pakistan links, questions remain unanswered
BJP spokesperson Kamal Kumar Medhi on February 11, launched an attack on Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi over alleged Pakistan links, claiming that the Congress leader has failed to provide clear answers to serious questions raised against him and his family.
Addressing the media at Pathsala, Medhi said that if an investigation were to prove that the former Chief Minister’s son and daughter-in-law acted as agents of Pakistan, it would be “unfortunate for the Assamese community.”
He alleged that Gogoi has not given a “to-the-point” reply regarding claims that his wife maintained a bank account in Pakistan or received a salary there. “Instead of giving direct answers, he has given evasive responses,” Medhi said.
The BJP leader also made remarks concerning the religious identity of Gogoi’s children, alleging that the two grandchildren of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi are “neither Assamese nor Ahom” and that they had changed their religion. He further claimed that injustice had been done to the children.
Medhi’s comments come amid an ongoing political row between the BJP and the Congress over the alleged Pakistan connection.
The controversy has intensified political tensions in the state, with both parties engaging in sharp exchanges.
