The 64th annual conference of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha commenced on Thursday at Dwimu Nwgwr, Dimakuchi, in Udalguri district. The four-day event is set to be a vibrant celebration of Bodo language and literature, showcasing diverse cultural demonstrations and literary activities from across the region.
This year’s conference has drawn participants from Assam and neighboring countries, including Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan, alongside Indian states such as West Bengal, Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh. Renowned scholars, writers, and cultural enthusiasts have gathered to exchange ideas and contribute to the preservation and promotion of the Bodo language on both national and global platforms.
The inaugural day witnessed the opening of key facilities, including the main gate, pandal, seminar hall, and delegate accommodations. The exhibition venue, a highlight of the conference, attracted large crowds from various districts, reflecting the growing interest in Bodo heritage and culture.
Scheduled to address the conference on January 12, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma will attend as the chief guest during the open session. Additionally, Pramod Boro, Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Region, several state cabinet ministers, and other dignitaries will grace the event on its concluding day.
Dr. Surath Narzary, President of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, expressed his gratitude to the reception committee and organizers for ensuring smooth arrangements for delegates and guests. He highlighted the significance of the conference, which includes seminars, group discussions, and felicitation ceremonies. By Thursday evening, hundreds of delegates and observers had already arrived at the venue, setting the stage for an event that aims to strengthen efforts to preserve and celebrate the rich cultural legacy of the Bodo community.
