Assam: Bodoland’s silk potential in focus at Muga Resham Vigyan Krishi Mela 2025

The Muga Resham Vigyan Krishi Mela 2025, held at IT Park in Chandamari, highlighted Bodoland’s growing role in the silk industry. Organised by the Central Silk Board with support from the BTC Sericulture Department, the event brought together silk farmers, industry experts, and officials to discuss opportunities in sericulture.

 

Dr NK Bhatia, Director of the Muga Eri Silkworm Seed Organisation, inaugurated the mela, which featured an exhibition of locally produced silk products. A workshop was also conducted to provide farmers with technical insights into improving silk quality and production.  

 

BTC Sericulture Department Director Anjan Chakraborty and other officials attended the event. Speaking to the media, Bhatia emphasised Bodoland’s strong potential in silk production and reiterated the Central Silk Board’s commitment to supporting the sector’s growth.  

 

BTC Executive Member Daobaisa Boro highlighted the rising global demand for eri silk from Bodoland, stressing that efforts are underway to enhance both quality and output.
