Bokakhat is set to honour late music icon Zubeen Garg with a life-size statue, which is scheduled to be completed within this month. A monthly ritual ceremony will be conducted at the base of the statue on October 23, marking the formal installation.
The project is being undertaken under the initiative of former Bokakhat MLA Jiten Gogoi, who has previously commissioned life-size statues of Bhupen Hazarika and former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. A sculptor from Kolkata has been engaged to give the final touches to the statue.
Work officially commenced today, shortly after Zubeen Garg’s last rites, with Vedic chants blessing the beginning of the effort. The statue will be installed beside the existing statue of Bhupen Hazarika, near the National Highway in front of Nahorjan Industrial School.
Local residents have welcomed the decision, describing it as a befitting tribute to the beloved singer whose music continues to resonate across Assam and beyond.
