Public Health Engineering Minister Jayantamalla Baruah on Tuesday inaugurated the newly established co-district commissioner’s Office for Boko–Chhaygaon at Dakuapara, Boko, marking a significant step in decentralising administrative services in Kamrup district.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Kamrup Deputy Commissioner Dev Kumar Mishra, Boko MLA Nandita Das, Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council Chairman Sonaram Rabha, Satradhikar of Samaria Satra, and several other notable personalities from the region.
Speaking at the event, Minister Baruah emphasised that the creation of the co-district commissioner office would enable faster, more efficient public service delivery compared to traditional administrative setups. He pointed out that until now, residents from remote areas like Lampi and Nagarbera had to travel to the commissioner’s office in Amingaon for official matters. “From today, essential services will be accessible right here in Boko,” he said.
The minister also revealed that Kamrup district has simultaneously inaugurated two new sub-divisional commissioner’s offices — one for Boko–Chhaygaon and another for Palashbari — with the objective of reducing travel burdens, minimising expenses, and ensuring administrative efficiency through decentralisation of power.
As part of the new administrative arrangement, the state government has already appointed Priyansu Bharadwaj as Sub-Divisional Commissioner and Chandipan Garg as Sub-Divisional Police Officer for Boko–Chhaygaon, alongside officers for other key departments.
