Assam: Bongaigaon residents face nightmare as dilapidated Talaguri–Basugaon road worsens
Commuters in Bongaigaon district of Assam are grappling with hardship as the Talaguri–Basugaon connecting road deteriorates into a state of near-total disrepair. The unfinished road, which was being constructed under the Asom Mala scheme, has left residents frustrated, inconvenienced, and sleep-deprived.
Sources say the construction work was abruptly halted midway, leaving the road full of potholes and dust, making daily travel hazardous. The constant movement of dumpers and construction vehicles has added to the problem, creating a dust-laden environment that has disrupted the peace and sleep of residents in the surrounding areas.
“The situation has become unbearable. Commuters face severe difficulties, and the dust is affecting our health and daily lives,” said a local resident, requesting anonymity.
Community members have issued stern warnings of potential agitation if the construction work is not resumed and completed promptly. Residents have also demanded immediate intervention from the District Commissioner to ensure the roadwork is finished and traffic and public safety are restored.
Officials from the Public Works Department have yet to respond to the escalating concerns, leaving locals increasingly anxious about the completion of the critical link road.
The Talaguri–Basugaon road, once operational, is expected to significantly improve connectivity in the region. But until the construction resumes, Bongaigaon residents continue to bear the brunt of infrastructural negligence, highlighting urgent gaps in project monitoring and citizen grievance redressal.
