Assam: Bongaigaon village sets example of social unity as Muslim community conducts Hindu youth’s funeral
In a notable display of communal harmony and social solidarity, residents of Ambari-Parerchar village in Assam’s Bongaigaon district came together to perform the last rites of a Hindu youth in accordance with Hindu customs and rituals.
The incident took place in Ambari-Parerchar village, a Muslim-majority area under the Srijangram constituency.
Following the death of Pratik Bhowmik, a resident of the village, local Muslim community members stepped forward to assist in completing the funeral and cremation rituals. Villagers collectively carried the body and ensured that the final rites were conducted at the public cremation ground in keeping with Hindu religious traditions.
The act of extending support beyond religious boundaries has drawn attention across the area and has been viewed by many as an example of coexistence and mutual respect among communities.
At a time when concerns over religious polarisation and social divisions continue to surface in different parts of the state, the gesture by the residents of Ambari-Parerchar has been seen as reflecting values of humanity, social unity and communal goodwill.
