Assam: Bongaigaon woman sold for Rs. 60,000 in Siliguri, rescued later

In a shocking incident that has exposed the underbelly of human trafficking, a young woman from Bashbari No. 7, under the jurisdiction of Manikpur police station in Bongaigaon district, has come forward with harrowing details of her ordeal.

The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, recounted her traumatic experience, alleging that she was promised a job opportunity but instead fell victim to a nefarious trafficking scheme. "I was promised to get a job but have not received any job letter. They told me to stay in Guwahati for one day. And later, Nurul Islam sold me in Siliguri for Rs 60,000. I went to the police station and seek justice," she stated.

According to the victim's account, four years ago, a young man identified as Nurul Islam from her village enticed her with the prospect of employment outside the state. She was led to believe that she would find work in Bengaluru. However, her journey took a sinister turn when she was allegedly drugged and transported by train to Siliguri, where she was subsequently sold for a staggering sum of Rs. 60,000.

Following her sale, the victim endured unimaginable hardships until she managed to escape and return to her home after four years of captivity.

Upon lodging a First Information Report (FIR) at the Manikpur police station, authorities swiftly acted, leading to the arrest of Nurul Islam, the alleged perpetrator behind this heinous crime.

Demanding justice and stringent action against Nurul Islam, the victim has highlighted the urgent need to tackle the scourge of human trafficking, which continues to plague society.
