Assam: BPF to field own candidates in Kajalgaon, Rowta; Darangajuli left for BJP in bypolls

The Policy-Making Body (PMB) of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) held a meeting at the party’s central office in Kokrajhar on September 19 with BTC Chief and BPF president Hagrama Mohilary in attendance.

The meeting began with party leaders paying tribute to renowned Assamese artiste Zubeen Garg.

During the closed-door meeting, the BPF discussed the upcoming by-elections to three BTC constituency seats and took several decisions regarding the party’s electoral strategy. The party resolved to urge the authorities to conduct the by-elections at the earliest and decided to write to the Election Commission seeking an early schedule.

According to the decisions taken at the meeting, the BPF will field its own candidates in the Kajalgaon and Rowta BTC constituencies. The party has also decided to leave the Darangajuli constituency for the BJP.

The meeting further decided to publish a magazine highlighting development initiatives undertaken by the Hagrama Mohilary-led administration. The publication is scheduled to be released on October 5, marking one year of the government. The party also announced plans to distribute land pattas under each Circle Office.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Mohilary said the BPF would also organise district-wise youth festivals during the upcoming Puja holidays.

The decisions come ahead of the proposed BTC by-elections, with the BPF preparing its organisational and electoral strategy for the three constituencies.
