Assam: BTC govt announces community welfare department for inclusive development

The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) government, led by Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro, announced the creation of a new Community Welfare Department to ensure the holistic development of all communities within the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

The announcement was made during a press conference on April 22, in Kokrajhar by BTC government Spokesperson and Executive Member Goutom Das. He stated that the decision was finalised in the recent Executive Council meeting chaired by CEM Pramod Boro.

“This department will work for the overall development of all recognized communities in the BTR. It will focus on areas like culture, education, religion, socio-economic welfare, and community-based initiatives,” said Das.

The BTC government plans to allocate Rs 5 lakhs annually to each of the 26 recognised communities for various developmental activities and welfare programmes.

The initiative is expected to foster greater unity and progress across the region. The proposal will be formally introduced and passed during the upcoming BTC Budget Session, scheduled to be held from April 23 to 24.

In addition, Executive Member Ranjit Basumatary informed that the BTC Government has also resolved to address longstanding land issues affecting several communities in the region. The resolution aims to bring clarity, justice, and stability in matters related to land ownership and usage across the BTR. This proposal will also be tabled during the Council Assembly Session.

The creation of the Community Welfare Department marks a significant milestone in the BTC Government’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusive governance and equitable development across all sections of society.
