Assam: Bust of Zubeen Garg unveiled at Jorhat’s Madhumilan Hotel as fans remember music icon

A bust of music icon Zubeen Garg was unveiled at Madhumilan Hotel in Jorhat as a tribute to the late artiste and to commemorate his long association with the establishment.

The initiative was undertaken by the Subham Saha family, owners of Madhumilan Hotel, which was established in 1982.

Zubeen Garg had maintained a close association with the hotel since his college days at J.B. College in Jorhat. He would regularly visit Madhumilan to have its popular singara. Even after moving to Guwahati, Garg continued to visit the hotel during his trips to Jorhat.

Over the years, Garg developed a close relationship with the Saha family, who considered him a part of their extended family. The bust was installed on the hotel premises to honour that association and preserve his memory.

The bust was formally unveiled by Jorhat-based music director Jayanta Nath at a programme attended by more than 200 people.

The event also featured performances of songs associated with Zubeen Garg. Artists performed several of his popular numbers, including Mayabini, while Devananda Bora and Sanjib Chikhu presented other songs from his repertoire.

The programme brought together local residents, music enthusiasts and members of the Madhumilan family to remember Garg and his contribution to Assamese music and culture.
