The Assam government has extended its appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Cabinet for approving the much-anticipated Namrup IV Fertilizer Plant project. During the weekly cabinet meeting on Thursday, March 20 the Assam Cabinet unanimously passed a resolution expressing its gratitude to the central government.
On March 19, 2025, the Union Cabinet, under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, sanctioned the establishment of a Brownfield Ammonia-Urea Complex at Namrup. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 12.7 Lakh Metric Tonnes (LMT) of urea, with an estimated project cost of ₹10,601.40 crore.
Acknowledging this significant development, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared on X (formerly Twitter), “The #AssamCabinet unanimously passed a resolution thanking Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji and the Union Cabinet for approving the ₹10,601cr Namrup Fertilizer Plant.”
The Namrup IV project is expected to strengthen domestic urea production, particularly benefiting the North-East, Bihar, West Bengal, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand. Designed as an energy-efficient facility, the plant is projected to create substantial direct and indirect employment opportunities while fostering economic growth. Additionally, it will play a crucial role in enhancing India's self-reliance in fertilizer production and bolstering agricultural development.
