Assam can become a Rs 10 lakh crore economy under Himanta’s leadership: Bhupen Bora

Assam BJP leader Bhupen Bora on May 26, expressed confidence that Assam would emerge as a developed state under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, highlighting the government’s economic vision and welfare goals outlined during the chief minister’s reply to the Governor’s address in the Assembly.
 

Speaking to reporters, Bora said the chief minister had presented a “proper plan” for transforming Assam into a Rs 10 lakh crore economy by 2028-29.
 

“We are very much convinced that under the dynamic and mature leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam will become a Rs 10 lakh crore economy in the coming days,” he said.
 

The minister also said the government aims to significantly reduce the Below Poverty Line (BPL) population in the state. According to Bora, the chief minister expressed hope of bringing down the BPL percentage from the current 17 per cent to around 1 or 2 per cent.
 

Highlighting the healthcare sector, Bora said the chief minister had also laid out a vision to improve Assam’s maternal mortality indicators.
 

Bora claimed that Assam’s maternal mortality ratio stands at 256 per one lakh live births and said the chief minister was hopeful of bringing the figure down significantly in the coming years.
 

Bora added that the chief minister’s address reflected the hopes and aspirations of the people of Assam and expressed confidence that the state would witness major development over the next five years.
